Samina Baig

Samina Baig, born September 19th, 1990, was the first Pakistani native woman to climb Mount Everest. She also climbed and reached the summit of Mount Everest at the young age of 21. On top of this crowning achievement, she was the first Pakistani woman to reach the top of the Seven Summits.  Samina Baig could be considered a rising Pakistani star due to documentaries made about her achievements, interviews on the internet, and much more. As far as involvement in the Pakistani tourism industry, Samina Baig contributes in her own way. Samina Baig’s dream was always to plant the Pakistani flag at the peak of Mount Everest.

Samina’s journey to the top of the mountains begins with her brother, Mirza Ali, who accompanied her to the top of Mount Everest and the Seven Summits. In this way, her brother became the third and the youngest male to reach the tops of these summits. During interviews and reports, both siblings made mention at the amount of preparation and planning each climb took, noting how much of a team they were during the journey. She reports her brother is not only her best friend, but also her most valuable personal trainer.

Samina Baig is largely considered a humongous inspiration to the millions of women in Pakistan, as the Pakistani flag was unfurled on the top of Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak. In some ways, the images and videos of Samina Baig holding the flag atop Mount Everest made her a Pakistani Star.

The conquering of Everest and the Seven Summits by Samina Baig also fell on the same date as the first successful climb by Tensing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary, how reached the summit of Everest in 1953. Samina, born and raised in the small town of Shimshal near Hunza, in Gilgit-Balistan, is widely acclaimed as one of the most inspirational Pakistani women to grace the Television screen.

Samina and her brother will continue to climb the world’s highest peaks, bringing attention to Pakistan and hopefully revitalizing the Pakistani tourism industry in their own way, by bringing attention to the country of Pakistan and creating universal and critical appeal in the form of record breaking. Samina Baig will continue to bring inspiration to thousands across the world, and will continue her studies as her brother embarks on more expeditions.
