Perhaps the best dramatist and playwright in Pakistani history, Haseena Moin has written plays, drama serials and films. She has done it all. Her work has gained international recognition in the field of writing. Haseena Moin with her family migrated from highly populated city of Kanpur (India) to Rawalpindi, Pakistan , moving further on to Lahore and finally Karachi where she eventually settled. Haseena Moin graduated from the Government College for Women in 1960 and later on got her masters from The University of Karachi in History.
“Studio Number Nau” was the platform through which she showed her skills as a playwright .The popular radio show, responsible for producing Pakistani Television Legends such as Talat Husain, Mahmood Khan Moodi and Neelofer Aleem among others proved to be a stepping stone for her as she strengthened her repute. Her career got a boost when she received a request from the then PTV-Karachi Centre head script, Iftikhar Arif, to produce a script for a play for the forthcoming EID.”Eid Ka Jora” was hence written, aired and was to be the first of many brilliant plays such as Uncle Urfi, Zeir Zabr Peish, ,Tanhaiyaan, Unkahi, Parchaieyen etc. Her play “Gurya” eventually landed her much deserved international acclaim and honor at The Global TV Plays Festival for best script. Due to her astounding talent, Haseena Moin was presented with the President of Pakistan’s Pride of Performance. Her journey to the film industry yielded a few movies. Raj Kapoor’s dream Indo-Pak love story, “Henna”, was the first movie she wrote dialogues for. The movie was also chosen as India’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars. However, her Pakistani film “Kahin Pyaar na hojae” did not see much success at the box office. Her work once again was rewarded as Usmans Peerzada’s “Nazdekiyan”, which she wrote dialogues for, won the esteemed National Award.
Haseena Moin is writing a promising play for Media City Productions in 2012. Her dramatic story writing skills are going to be visible once again in her upcoming serial “Anjaane Nagar”.Her most recent drama, ”Choti si Kahani”, was aired on PTV Home and was well received by audience and critics alike.
